One of the favorite pieces of art I own is Tako Truck by Ken Taya, AKA Enfu. It captures two of my favorite culinary things, tacos and takoyaki. Both are best consumed late at night from street vendors, preferably after a beer or two.
Coincidentally, I had some great takoyaki last week at Hide’s Sushi Bar in Duboce Triangle with Erin, Brent and Noor. I think it was the first time I’d had it since I lived in Japan in 2002. Piping hot deep fried balls of dough filled with chunks of octopus, topped with okonomiyaki sauce and dipped in mayonnaise. Much love to Osaka. Did I mention that taco and tako sound the same… never mind.
Where was I? Oh, right. Here are some interesting preliminary sketches of Tako Truck. I also just ordered a copy of Enfu’s latest art print, a hybrid pop culture explosion titled Nihon Town. Look for it on my wall (probably in my office, Erin claims we’re running low on wall space) in the near future. Enfu’s Flickr stream is worth checking out, too.
