iPhone threading sample code
To go along with my lecture on performance in CS193P on Tuesday, I posted some sample code for working with threads in iPhone applications.
If you have the iPhone SDK installed, you can download and run LetsMakeAThread (much respect to Douglas Adams) and ThreadedFlickrTableView.
If you aren’t an iPhone development nerd… we now return to our regularly scheduled programming.

Red Bull Soapbox Race 2008
I checked out the Red Bull Soapbox Race 2008 in Dolores Park yesterday (unrelated to the ILLEGAL soapbox derby on November 2 that I posted about below). Apparently there were ~75,000 spectators in attendance. You can view a video from the SF Chronicle. Here are a couple of great shots from cory411 on Flickr.

“If you’re like me, you’ve always wanted to go to Iceland. It’s now cheaper than ever, and you’ll get front-row seats for an astounding economic collapse. The perfect recession vacation!”
Another excellent Planet Money podcast.

Harriet Russell: Pushing the envelope →
Great story about Harriet Russell, an artist who sent herself 130 amazing postcards that required solving a puzzle in order to deliver them. Amazingly, 120 of them made it.

Stanford Reunion, Class of 2003
We had our five year reunion down at Stanford this weekend for the class of 2003. Saw & caught up with a ton of people, many of whom I hadn’t been in touch with (aside from Facebook, I suppose) since graduation. At times it verged on sensory overload, especially at the densely packed events on Friday and Saturday nights. In the end, though, it was a great weekend. My photos don’t...

Hardly Strictly Bluegrass 2008
Still catching up on recent outings… the weekend before last, we went to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in Golden Gate Park along with Joey and Cassie, also meeting up with Aaron, Kristina, Cindy and Warren. We caught Elvis Costello and Gogol Bordello, both of which were great. You can view photos here, or check out the slideshow below:

This Film Is Not Yet Rated
Just watched This Film Is Not Yet Rated, a muckraking documentary about the MPAA’s wildly misguided film ratings system. It was a good watch- a bit predictable at times, but funny, infuriating and cathartic all at once. Here’s the trailer.
